WinLINE Version 8 BREN OEM Edition

Windows system printer driver for BREN cutters

Instructions

  1. If you are upgrading the software for an old cutter, please contact BREN to determine your entitlement to use the software.
  2. For BREN 6 Series cutters manufactured after January 2010, use a standard USB cable. Connect one end of the cable to a USB port on the computer. Do not connect the other end of the cable to the cutter until you are prompted by the WinLINE installation program.
  3. For all other BREN models, including all BREN 5 Series cutters, use a parallel cable or a USB to Parallel cable (IEEE 1284). (If your computer has a parallel port, you can use a standard centronics parallel cable instead). Install the USB to Parallel cable before you install the WinLINE software by plugging the cable into a USB port on the computer while Windows is running. Do not connect the other end of the cable to the cutter until you are prompted by the WinLINE installation program.
  4. Click the down arrow to download the appropriate WinLINE installer for your computer and save it to your hard drive. (For a zipped version of this package, clicked ZIPPED).
  5. Run the file you downloaded by double-clicking its icon from your desktop or Windows Explorer and follow the Installation Wizard.
  6. After you click through the license agreement and click the Install button, you'll be prompted to make sure your printer is NOT connected to the computer by any cable. Make sure, and then click Next.
  7. When the software is ready to accept the device, connect the cutter by plugging the end of the cable in to the cutter and click Next.
  8. If the cutter is connected with a USB cable, Windows may ask you several questions.

  10. Enter the serial number for your cutter and click Next to activate the software. If you do not know your serial number, skip this step and activate the software later.
  11. Select your cutter model from the drop down list of Models.
  12. The Port field specifies the port your computer will use to send information to the cutter. It must be the port to which the cable is connected. If the computer has auto-recognized your cutter, the Port field will be assigned to a valid port. If the Port field is blank, you must select the correct port:
    • USB cable

If you are using a standard USB cable, select the USB Port that corresponds to your cable and port. USB ports usually have a name like USB001, USB002, USB003 etc. If you see more than one, choose the one with the highest number.
    • USB to parallel cable

If you are using a USB to parallel conversion cable, select the USB Virtual Printer Port that corresponds to your cable and port. USB Virtual Printer Ports usually have a name like USB001, USB002, USB003 etc. If you see more than one virtual USB port, choose the one with the highest number.
    • Centronics parallel cable

If you are using a parallel cable, select the LPT port your cable is plugged in to (LPT1, LPT2, LPT3 etc.).
    • Unknown

If you cannot see any suitable port or you are unsure which port to select, connect the driver to the port called FILE:. You can change the port from your Windows Printers Folder after installation, by right-clicking on the icon for your plotter and selecting Properties > Ports.
  13. If you need help with installation, see the FAQ page for answers to common questions such as how to select the right port and what to do if you don't get any output.
  14. After installation, configure WinLINE to match your cutter by right-clicking on the icon in your Windows Printers Folder, and selecting "Printing Preferences".
  15. Print with WinLINE from any standard Windows program.
  16. If anything isn't right or isn't clear, please ask a question.
